THE FUTURE PEOPLE were commissioned by Celadon-New town, a New Urbanist Community of Grand Rapids, MI to create a large-scale sculpture to celebrate the dynamics of a new urbanist community. Habitat is located near the main entrance welcoming visitors and residents. The sculpture is fabricated in steel and hot dipped galvanized for protection from the elements. The title refers to the network of interdependent elements in a community and the way that those elements hold themselves together. It is a metaphor for the way a community grows and the way the natural world builds and supports itself. Artwork, commissioned by Mosaic Properties owner was created by Rachael to reflect the sculptural elements of Habitat and the thriving new urbanist community. IceJam, an outdoor bench, designed and built by Cameron, was later installed on location for public outdoor seating.
