Completed for the opening
of the new Helen Devos Children's Hospital, THE FUTURE PEOPLE designed and
fabricated this large-scale water feature. The goal of the project was to
create a work that was colorful and playful for the children at the hospital to
enjoy, would contain content that the children could relate to, and also to
involve children in actually creating the piece. For the content of the work THE
FUTURE PEOPLE choose to show different ways that children playfully interact
with water. Once the commission was
secured THE FUTURE PEOPLE collaborated with students from three local high
schools with each student designing and building a ceramic vessel to fit inside
the water feature. Once that was complete Cameron designed the placement of the
ceramic vessels, constructed the glass cases, and had the water delivery system
installed. Rachael focused on working with the students, designing and painting
the three figures, and painting the background imagery. The water feature is on
permanent display in the Helen Devos Children's Hospital in Grand
Rapids, MI
