By early 2013 CTN had received a large donation toward the purchase of a property in order to restart a camp. Cameron worked with the land search committee to help the community identify what kind of property would be ideal. It was determined that the parcel should have the following requirements: 2 acres or more, on a bus line, within the city of Ann Arbor, with well defined boundaries, and a usable house on the site with utilities. In June 2013 CTN purchased a property meeting those requirements with an existing 3-bedroom house and a walk out basement.
By September 2013 the main floor of the house had been cleaned up and we were having our weekly meetings there. Four people lived at the house full time and opened it daily for others in the group to come in to do laundry, take a shower, use the Internet, or cook a meal for themselves. There was a small problem however and that was that on Sundays when 50 or more people would come for the meal/meeting the main floor was completely packed and there was no way to get everyone in the small living room for the meeting.
The house needed an extensive renovation to the lower level garage in order to create a large space where the group could gather and to solve some major structural issues as well. Cameron brought in a building consultant to advise on the structural repair and code issues and through that guidance produced structural drawings for use in obtaining permits for the work and presentation drawings in order to raise funds for the renovation. Funds were raised by the Fall 2014 and the work is now completed.
