Off the Grid; The Thousand Acre Experiment
From August 2017 – May 2018 THE FUTURE PEOPLE experienced living full time on a 1000 acres of land at Turtle Island Preserve. We lived in a 200 square foot primitive cabin with no running water and no electricity. The cabin was ¼ mile away from where we could park our vehicles and so we got a lot of exercise hauling water, food, tools, and furniture up the small trail. The purpose of the project was to experience life in a closer connection with the natural world and to discover the overlooked luxuries of meaningful physical work for the body and directly providing for our needs. We learned to care for farm animals and we learned the power of this life to positively impact children. Our hope is to share these experiences with others that are seeking to find a more authentic and meaningful relationship with the natural systems that support life.
